Emotions like anxiety, depression, stress, fatigue, anger, and sadness can feel overwhelming at times. But when these feelings start to interfere with daily life — affecting your relationships, work, or family — it may be time to seek support. Central Kansas Mental Health Center is here to help you through these challenging moments.
Individual therapy — sometimes called “counseling” — is a collaborative process between you and a licensed mental health professional. Together, you can talk through challenges, set goals, and take steps toward wellness. Therapy can address concerns ranging from minor disruptions in daily life to more serious, long-term issues. People of all ages are welcome to seek support. For youth, parent or guardian consent and participation helps ensure the best outcomes.
Family counseling brings family members together with a trained counselor to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and work through challenges or traumatic events. Depending on the situation, some or all family members may participate. This process creates a safe space to strengthen relationships and find healthier ways to move forward together.
Couples counseling brings together a married, engaged, dating, or partnered couple with a therapist who will provide you with tools to address and manage areas of conflict or dissatisfaction in your relationship. Your therapist will work collaboratively with the couple in a safe, caring and sensitive environment to determine a course of action designed to meet your unique needs with the ultimate goal being improved communication and conflict resolution.
This is a therapy service led by a licensed mental health provider with a group of individuals with similar needs. Sharing and learning from other people is a proven method to help individuals recover from common behavioral health problems. Most groups have around 8 people.
ART incorporates a combination of techniques used in many traditional psychotherapies. ART works directly to reprogram the way in which distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions. ART can be utilized with other therapies and medical treatments. The client is always in control of what is happening. ART does not involve hypnotherapy. No medication is given; however, if clients are already taking medications, ART can still be used. Clients can choose whether or not to share their most distressing memories. There are no homework assignments. The client does not have to purposefully recall the traumatic scene(s) between sessions.
Developed by Marsha Linehan, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is the gold standard for psychological treatment. Originally created for suicidal individuals, it is now offered to clients who experience substance dependence, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders. Through weekly therapy, skills training groups and coaching calls, clients will develop a healthy perspective on life. Treatment typically lasts for a minimum of six months and lasts until you are ready to see the beauty life has to offer.
